πŸ“‹ SecuRooms Drive: Proxy settings

This article is for administrators. It describes how SecuRooms Drive determines your company's proxy, how to set a specific proxy machine-wide instead, and what is not supported. These settings apply from SecuRooms Drive version 1.1.0.

Default behaviour: the Windows settings apply

SecuRooms Drive picks up the machine's proxy settings automatically from the Windows internet settings. In most cases no additional configuration is required.

SecuRooms Drive can only take over a single proxy value. If several proxy servers or a proxy list are configured in the Windows internet settings, that list cannot be used.

The proxy setting applies to all traffic SecuRooms Drive issues itself: sign-in, data retrieval, uploads, downloads and the connection check against the FTAPI instance.

Setting a specific proxy

To make SecuRooms Drive use a specific proxy, set the registry value ProxyURL of type REG_SZ:

KeyHKLM\Software\ftapi\SecuRooms Drive
ValueProxyURL (REG_SZ)
Formathttp://host:port
https://host:port
Scopemachine-wide, for all users of the machine
Takes effectthe next time SecuRooms Drive starts

You can distribute the value by group policy or set it during installation. For an automated installation from the MSI package, pass it as the property PROXY_URL:

msiexec /i "FTAPI SecuRooms Drive.msi" /qn SERVER_URL="https://your-instance.ftapi.com" PROXY_URL="http://proxy.your-company.com:8080"

For the automated installation as a whole, see πŸ“‹ SecuRooms Drive: Rollout and Installation.

Note: A proxy set through ProxyURL applies to all of SecuRooms Drive's traffic without exception. Exceptions for individual addresses are not possible then, not even through the exception list in the Windows internet settings. If you need exceptions, leave ProxyURL unset and configure the proxy and its exception list in the Windows internet settings.

The order in which SecuRooms Drive determines the proxy

  1. ProxyURL from the registry, if set and valid.
  2. The system's proxy environment variables (HTTPS_PROXY, HTTP_PROXY, ALL_PROXY, NO_PROXY), if set.
  3. The machine's Windows internet settings.

If no proxy is configured in any of these places, SecuRooms Drive connects directly.

Not supported

  • Automatic proxy configuration through PAC or WPAD. Configure a fixed proxy instead.
  • SOCKS proxies. Only the schemes http and https are accepted.
  • Credentials in the ProxyURL value. A value containing credentials is rejected. If your proxy requires basic authentication, configure it through the system's proxy environment variables.
  • Authentication methods other than basic authentication, such as NTLM or Kerberos.
  • Exception lists for a proxy set through ProxyURL, see the note above.
