❓ Delivery: Why is a recipient added when forwarding a Level 1 link?

A SecuMail delivery with security level 1 can be downloaded by anyone who possesses the link.

If anonymous download is disabled on the server, the user is prompted to enter an email address before downloading. If the entered email address differs from the original recipient, it is added as an additional recipient to the recipient list.

Cause: Tracking and logging purposes

This behavior is technically intentional: For tracking and logging purposes, the system must be able to assign access to a recipient by default, even at security level 1. If the link is forwarded and a different address is entered, adding this address as a recipient ensures that the access is documented and that all relevant persons (original and new recipients) are informed about the delivery or can access it. Therefore, this is not an error.

Alternative configuration (For administrators)

If this automatic addition of recipients upon forwarding is not desired, the behavior can be adjusted.

Allow anonymous download

An administrator of the instance can activate the option "Allow anonymous level 1 downloads" in the web interface under System -> SecuMails.

If this option is activated, recipients no longer need to provide their email address to download security level 1 deliveries. Anonymous download is then possible, and no new recipients are added when the link is forwarded, as the field for entering the email address is omitted.
