π The FTAPI security levels
Every company exchanges data and information of varying sensitivity on a daily basis β both internally and across company boundaries. Much of this data is so sensitive that it must not fall into the hands of third parties. Depending on how much protection this data requires, you can choose between four different security levels at FTAPI.
This article provides an overview of the FTAPI security levels.
Security Level 1 - Secure Link
When sending with Security Level 1, your submission is stored under a secure link. Anyone who knows this link can open the submission and download the files; an FTAPI account is not required for this.
Therefore, you should only use this security level to send or provide downloads for information intended for the general public β i.e., no personal or sensitive data. This can include non-critical data such as tender documents, but also particularly large files such as product catalogs and software updates.
With Security Level 1, these can be shared simply, securely, and quickly.
Security Level 2 - Secure Link + Login
If data should only be downloadable by specific recipients, we recommend sending with Security Level 2. This is because the recipient requires an FTAPI account to access the submission.
If the recipient does not yet have an FTAPI account, a free guest account is created automatically. A simple and fast solution to establish a secure communication channel with external recipients.
Security Level 3 - Secure Link + Login + Encrypted Files
With this security level, sensitive or business-critical data can be sent with end-to-end encryption. To decrypt the data, the recipient requires an FTAPI account as well as the SecuPass-Key.
The SecuPass-Key ensures a consistently end-to-end encrypted transfer of the files. This means that no one except you and the recipient has access to the sent file contents - not even FTAPI.
This allows for the encrypted transfer of employment contracts or salary data for tax advisors. Intellectual property and critical company data are also optimally protected with Security Level 3.
Security Level 4 - Secure Link + Login + Encrypted Files + Encrypted Message
Security Level 4 goes one step further and also encrypts your message to the recipient. The entire text of the submission remains end-to-end encrypted throughout. Here too, the recipient requires an FTAPI account and the SecuPass-Key to decrypt the message and data.
Sending with Security Level 4 is therefore ideal if you want to discuss sensitive and business-critical topics such as strategies or plans in your email.
