📋FTAPI SecuMails: Security Level 1 with password protection
In this article, we explain the new feature for even more security when sending emails with Security Level 1.
What is it about?
Deliveries with Security Level 1 can now be additionally protected by a password. Once password protection is activated, a password can optionally be set by the sender when sending a delivery with Security Level 1. This is then required by the recipient to retrieve the delivery. The password must be transmitted outside of FTAPI (e.g., via phone or chat).
Note: The feature is available in the FTAPI web interface and in the FTAPI add-in for the new Outlook.
Administration
Password protection is a configuration at the group level (Administration > Groups) and must be activated by the administrator for each user group:
A password policy for password protection can be defined via the system settings (Administration > SecuMails > Settings):
Use cases
- Protection against unauthorized access - Should the email fall into the wrong hands (e.g., due to a misdirected delivery or a hacked mailbox), the content remains protected by the additional password.
- Protection during email forwarding - Even if the recipient forwards the email inadvertently, the new recipient cannot open the attachment without the password.
- Protection against automated attacks - Should an email mailbox be compromised by phishing or brute-force attacks, the password protects the sensitive content.
